Traditional metal braces are certainly effective for straightening teeth and correcting bite issues. However, they are far from perfect. Their metal brackets and wires can make them feel restrictive! The good news is that an alternative orthodontic option — Invisalign clear braces — provides some remarkable freedoms. What privileges can you expect with Invisalign? This blog post explains a few.
Freedom to Eat Your Favorite Foods
Traditional braces come with a long list of foods that you should avoid. In contrast, Invisalign uses removable aligner trays. Whenever you want to eat a meal or snack, all you have to do is take Invisalign out of your mouth, enjoy your food, care for your oral hygiene, and then go back to wearing your aligners. You can feel free to eat virtually anything, including sticky and chewy items that could spell trouble for traditional braces.
Freedom to Smile with Confidence
Metal braces can call a lot of attention to themselves, so they might make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Invisalign is different. Although its clear aligners are not totally invisible, they are discreet. You can smile with confidence whether you are meeting new people, posing for selfies with friends, or giving a big presentation at work. For special occasions, it is even okay to briefly remove your aligners altogether.
Freedom from Discomfort
Any type of orthodontic treatment is likely to cause discomfort because of the consistent pressure that is necessary to shift the teeth into their proper positions. However, Invisalign tends to be more comfortable than regular braces for at least two reasons:
- Invisalign aligners are made of smooth plastic that rests comfortably against the mouth’s soft tissues — there are no irritating brackets and wires!
- You change your Invisalign aligners every two weeks or so, meaning that tooth movements are more gradual than with braces.
Freedom from Burdensome Appointments
With both Invisalign and traditional braces, it is necessary to attend regular check-ins with your dental team. The difference is that with Invisalign, the appointments tend to be very brief. In fact, they often last just 15 minutes or so! Braces appointments can take much longer due to the need to switch out the arch wire or perform other tasks.
